Internationally recognized for his performances as both a concerto soloist and a recitalist, Italian pianist Maurizio Baglini rose to prominence after 2000 through victories in major piano competitions and frequent appearances as a guest artist at prominent music festivals. Born in Pisa in 1975, he pursued his training under Giampiero Semeraro at the Conservatory La Spezia before continuing his studies with Piero Rattalino and Lazar Berman at the International Piano Academy "Incontri col Maestro" in Imola. He earned prizes at several international competitions, among them the Concorso Busoni in Bolzano, the Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the 1998 William Kapell Competition in College Park, Maryland, and the 1999 Music Master Competition in Montecarlo. Baglini has performed regularly at festivals that include the Yokohama Piano Festival, the Israel Festival in Jerusalem, Festival Berlioz in La Côte-Saint-André, the International Piano Festival of La Roque-d'Anthéron, the Australian Chamber Music Festival, and the Festival Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli in Bergamo and Brescia. Together with his associate Stefan Giesen, he established the Amiata Piano Festival, where he serves as co-founder and artistic director, and he has conducted masterclasses in Fondi and Cremona. His discography for Tudor Records and Decca encompasses works by Scarlatti, Liszt, Schumann, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninov, and Busoni, alongside contemporary pieces by Rolf Urs Ringger and Azio Corghi.
