Maya Hawke, the New York actress, singer, and songwriter recognized for portraying Robin Buckley in the Netflix series Stranger Things, launched her recording career in 2020 via the album Blush. That dusty alt-country collection wrapped her poetic and frequently heartfelt lyrics in a distinctive sonic frame. Songwriter Jesse Harris supplied the music for her debut, whereas the 2022 follow-up MOSS drew on input from Benjamin Lazar Davis, Christian Lee Hutson, and Will Graefe. Both Chaos Angel, her third full-length, and the EP Clipped Wings reached listeners in 2024.

Born to actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, she spent her childhood in New York surrounded by creative pursuits. Upon completing her studies at the art-focused Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn, Hawke took summer acting courses at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York, later enrolling at Juilliard. While also modeling, she secured a part in the 2017 BBC miniseries Little Women and withdrew from Juilliard ahead of production. Her profile rose sharply in 2019 after joining Joe Keery—also known as Djo—in Season Three of Stranger Things, and an appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood added further momentum.

A longtime admirer of poetry, Hawke joined forces with Jesse Harris, whose past credits include work with Norah Jones and Madeleine Peyroux, to match her verses with melodies that yielded a warm, lonesome Americana atmosphere ideally matched to her relaxed and clear singing voice. Blush surfaced on Mom + Pop in June 2020. She next teamed with producer and songwriter Benjamin Lazar Davis for a new set of material. The initial preview from that project, the understated track “Thérèse,” emerged in July 2022 and drew inspiration from the Balthus painting Thérèse Dreaming. MOSS, which included a duet with Will Graefe of Okkervil River and Landlady plus additional songwriting from Christian Lee Hutson, followed on Mom + Pop in September 2022. Early 2024 brought the release of “Missing Out,” the first single from her third album Chaos Angel; the record reunited her with Hutson, Davis, and Graefe before its May arrival, and the EP Clipped Wings appeared in October.
