Melina Leon

From a young age the gifted Puerto Rican vocalist Melina León took part in numerous festivals and music competitions. Turning fifteen, she became a member of the ensemble Las Cheris, after which she assembled the all-female outfit Ruby and cut an album for the independent imprint Musical Productions. An executive from a local label soon noticed her, opening the door to her debut release, 1997’s Mujeres Liberadas; the follow-up, Con Los Pies Sobre La Tierra, arrived in 1998 with Eduardo Reyes at the helm. Shortly afterward she scaled the Puerto Rican charts via the hit single “Me Voy De Fiesta” while making her first appearance as a songwriter with “Te Amo.” Upon issuing Baño de Luna the artist earned the Best Female Merengue Record trophy at Premios Tu Musica 2000.
