Biography
Melvin Williams has long performed as part of the Williams Brothers, the gospel ensemble his father Leon "Pop" Williams established in 1960, yet he has also built recognition through his own recordings and through wide-ranging work composing and producing alongside other artists. Born in Mississippi, he stepped out on his own in 1988 with the album Back to the Cross, penning the bulk of its songs together with his brothers. That project reached number six on Billboard's gospel chart. Subsequent solo projects appeared on Blackberry, the imprint Williams started alongside his younger brother Doug. These included the 1998 release Never Seen Your Face as well as the pair of albums Crazy Like Love and Love Like Crazy, which both arrived on a single date in 2007. New Day issued his 2017 project Where I Started From. Grammy nominations and Stellar Awards have recognized his contributions.
