Biography
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, gospel performer Paul Porter once belonged to the Stellar-nominated Christianaires, an ensemble active from the late 1980s into the mid-2000s. Having sung since age three, he launched his solo career on the Light label in 2008 with A New Day, an album that included guest contributions from fellow Michigander Rance Allen and Harvey Watkins, Jr., and rose to number 21 on Billboard’s gospel chart. He later joined Motown Gospel and issued F.R.E.E. in 2014, a robust gospel collection that merged traditional and contemporary styles while favoring the former and reached number 33 on the same chart. Additional partnerships have included work with the Jackson Southernaires, the Williams Brothers, and the Canton Spirituals.
