Biography
After establishing himself over multiple productive years as a songwriter, arranger, and background vocalist, Anthony Brown emerged at the forefront in 2012 by forming Anthony Brown & group therAPy. The distinctive capitalization nods to the ensemble’s roots in 2000, when the Maryland native first assembled Answered Prayers as a vehicle for his compositions. As Brown contributed to successful gospel releases such as Maurette Brown-Clark’s The Dream (2007) and Stephen A. Hurd’s Times of Refreshing (2009), Answered Prayers transformed into group therAPy. Appearances on BET’s Celebration of Gospel in 2006, 2007, and 2012 paved the way for the self-titled debut issued that same year on Tyscot Records, which included featured turns from Maurette Brown Clark and VaShawn Mitchell. The follow-up Everyday Jesus arrived in 2015, ascending to the summit of Billboard’s gospel albums chart while the track “Worth” simultaneously led the gospel songs chart. Two years later A Long Way from Sunday secured Brown and the group their second number-one album.
