Growing up in Houston, Gene Moore developed into a contemporary gospel performer shaped by secular touchstones such as Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder before unveiling his long-anticipated first album, The Future, in 2017. The offspring of two pastors, he was immersed in both music and church life from childhood onward, joining the Southeast Inspirational Choir for performances during his teenage years. Though he first set out to build a career in broadcasting, Moore found himself returning to gospel by his early twenties. He served as a youth pastor and praise & worship leader before securing a contract with Motown Gospel in October 2013. Deliberately pacing the sessions for his debut Motown Gospel project, he spent the ensuing years providing supporting vocals in concerts and recording studios while gathering songs for the record. The Future reached listeners in July 2017, introduced beforehand by the single “Recover.”
