Grammy-nominated vocalist Anita Wilson first appeared on the scene in 2012 via her initial full-length effort Worship Soul, an album that fused present-day gospel with modern soul stylings. The New York Times offered favorable coverage, highlighting her unpolished ability and setting the stage for further recognition, while her follow-up Vintage Worship in 2014 solidified her standing as a commanding presence in today’s gospel landscape. Her 2017 release Sunday Song achieved her first summit on the Billboard gospel albums ranking.

Born June 19, 1976, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Wilson developed an early passion for music through exposure to classic soul, jazz, and gospel recordings. She joined her local church choir during childhood and later launched her professional path as a background vocalist alongside artists such as Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Marvin Sapp, and Hezekiah Walker.

Her initial notice as a lead performer came during her time with the Chicago-based Donald Lawrence & Co., notably through her featured part on “Happy Being Me.” After inking a deal with EMI, she issued Worship Soul in 2012; the project succeeded largely on the strength of gospel radio favorites “Speechless” and “Jesus Will,” drawing broader notice when critic Ben Ratliff placed it on his New York Times Best of 2012 roster and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Album. Two years afterward came Vintage Worship, driven by the single “That’s What He’s Done for Me,” which secured Wilson a second nomination in the same Grammy category. She shifted to eOne Music for Sunday Song in 2017; the set reached number one on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and produced her third Grammy nod in that field. Still collaborating on production with her husband Rick Robinson, she delivered the remix EP Dance Soul in 2020.
