Biography
In 2008 the Paris-based French rock band Mokaiesh issued its first full-length album. Frontman and principal songwriter Cyril Mokaiesh, whose cited influences range from Léo Ferré to Jacques Brel, leads a lineup completed by guitarist Jan Pham Huu Tri, bassist Alban Seillé, and drummer Eric Langlois. After signing with AZ, the Universal Music France subsidiary, the group made its commercial bow in 2007 via a self-titled five-track EP that spotlighted the songs “Comme Elle Est Belle” and “Va Savoir.” Those two numbers later appeared as separate singles to herald the 2008 album also titled Mokaiesh, which climbed to number 131 on the French albums chart. The release earned widespread critical attention while the band toured in its support.
