Evoking the spirit of the flower power era, Brigitte emerged as a French female duo whose blend of lounge-pop, retro-folk, and French cabaret yielded a distinctive hippie-chic aesthetic. The pair took their name from three emblematic figures of the 1960s—Bardot, Fontaine, and Lahaie—and came together in 2008 when Aurélie Maggiori, who had previously recorded as Mayane Delem, joined forces with Sylvie Hoarau, the former lead singer of the Parisian rock band Vendetta. Their first collaboration was a cover of Michel Jonasz’s “Les Vacances au Bord de la Mer,” recorded for Benoit Petre—once a bandmate of Delem—for the film Thelma Louise et Chantal. Shortly afterward they secured a deal with Wagram Records and issued the EP Battez-Vous, which included their singular interpretation of Suprême NTM’s 1990s hip-hop classic “Ma Benz.”

The 2011 debut album Et Vous, Tu M’aimes?, written in tandem with Franco-Lebanese singer/songwriter Camille Bazbaz and French troubadour Albin de la Simone, reached the French Top 20 and remained on the chart for close to two years while Brigitte performed more than 200 concerts at home and overseas. Their follow-up, À Bouche Que Veux-Tu (Mouth of Plenty), arrived in late 2014 on the duo’s own B. Records imprint; Brigitte and Marlon B, who had contributed to the first album, shared production duties.
