Biography
The French electro-pop outfit Hyphen Hyphen draws from influences such as Phoenix and Metronomy, propelled forward by the commanding vocals of frontwoman Santa across releases like the 2015 album Times.
The four members—singer and multi-instrumentalist Santa (Samanta Cotta), bassist and vocalist Line (Laura Christin), multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Adam (Romain Adamo), and drummer Zaccharie—established the band in 2009 while attending the Conservatory in Nice, France. French-American Cotta, daughter of a singer, had known Adamo since childhood, and the two later encountered Christin and Zaccharie during high school. After issuing the self-released EPs Chewbacca I'm Your Mother in 2011 and Wild Union in 2012, the group signed with Parlophone and delivered the full-length Times, which included the single "Just Need Your Love." In the next year Times and Lives surfaced as a collection of live renditions and remixes, coinciding with the band's receipt of the 2016 Victoire de la Musique award for Best New Live Act.
Zaccharie departed prior to the second album. Titled HH and issued in 2018, it was tracked at Air's studio with input from producer, songwriter, and vocal coach Guy Roche; the set contained the track "Lonely Baby" that featured Kiiara.
