Known professionally simply as Molly, the singer-songwriter Molly Smitten-Downes earned selection to represent the United Kingdom at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. Since 2005 her contributions to the dance and music project Stunt had brought her near chart recognition, which arrived in modest form during 2008 through the mash-up track "Raindrops (Encore une Fois)" created with electronic producer Sash!. Her vocal abilities soon drew the attention of Swedish producer Basshunter, who enlisted her for his album Bass Generation on the track "I Will Learn to Love Again." She launched her solo path with the 2011 acoustic EP Fly Away from Me and, two years later, joined Anders Hansson's project Dream Beats. The decisive opportunity arrived with her 2014 Eurovision appointment, for which she wrote and performed "Children of the Universe," finishing seventeenth with 40 points. Ahead of the contest she signed with Warner Music and released "Children of the Universe" as a single that reached the U.K. Top 40 chart.
