Biography
Born in 1994 in Busan, South Korea, this vocalist, rapper, and composer centers her work on sleek, seductive pop anchored in R&B. As a child she routinely sang along to cherished recordings. Her first credit on a commercial release arrived in 2015 as a featured artist on J’s “Bed Talk.” Through the close of 2020 she performed under the name Moon.
A 2016 single with the Korean rap trio Kigga preceded a brief hiatus. She resurfaced in late 2018 with the debut single “Million,” which included a rap from Gyeongju’s Dok2. That release initiated an extended association with Million Market, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment. The next year brought the follow-up “Day n Night” together with guest spots on singles by Sik-K, Simon Dominic, and Gray. In 2020 she released the solo tracks “Woo,” “2NIGHT,” and “Walk in the Night,” while also appearing on the multi-artist collaboration “Automatic” alongside Chancellor, Babylon, twlv, Bibi, and Jiselle.
April 2021 marked her first output under the name Moon Sujin with the piano ballad “The Moon,” recorded with NCT’s Taeil. The track became her most successful release to date, and further exposure came via her participation in JTBC’s reality competition Superband2. She later contributed the haunting electro-pop song “Hide and Seek” to the soundtrack of tvN’s mystery thriller Hometown and closed the year with the lighter single “Nundongja.”
Another soundtrack cut opened 2022: the sultry, jazzy “It’s Up to You,” featured in the SBS and Netflix romantic comedy series A Business Proposal. Her next joint effort with Jiselle, “Only U,” carried a ’90s R&B feel and arrived in the same month as her debut EP. Issued in May 2022, Lucky Charms! contained the earlier “Nundongja” plus appearances by Miso, Tabber, and Karenici. October brought “Off My Face,” her cover of Justin Bieber’s 2021 hit single.
