Biography
Moonlight Agony originated in Kungsbacka, Sweden, where the group’s initial period from 1999 onward featured frequent shifts in both its name and membership; even so, the progressive power metal style that later defined its recordings already surfaced in three demos cut during 2001 and 2002. When the band issued its first full-length effort, Echoes of a Nightmare, in 2004, the roster included guitarists Kalle Landin and Rickard Petersson, keyboardist Martin Mellström, drummer Robert Willstedt, bassist Christofer Starnefalk, and Sri Lankan-born vocalist Chity Somapala, though this configuration proved short-lived. For the 2007 follow-up Silent Waters LP, vocalist Chity Somapala and bassist Christofer Starnefalk had exited, with David Akesson and Christer Pedersen stepping in, yet the breadth and intricacy of the material stayed undiminished while continuing to reflect clear influences from Dream Theater and Symphony X.
