Originating under the name Eternity back in 1990, the project that would eventually become Eternity X counted leader and vocalist Keith Sudano among its founding members, along with bassist Robert "Zeek" Maziekien, both of whom remain active to this day. Following the appearance of the EP The Never Ending Dream, the band concentrated on local performances throughout the northeast United States. By 1992, guitar and drum duties had passed from Al Douglas and Harry Albert to Kevin Reipl and Jerry Liberto. The second EP, After the Silence, was laid down in 1993, after which Jimmy Peruta stepped in for Liberto behind the kit. Peruta introduced a heightened technical approach and fresh compositional directions that steered the group deeper into progressive territory. Zodiac, Eternity’s debut full-length, arrived in 1994 and achieved notable success in Japan, yet the departure of guitarist Kevin Reipl shortly afterward created an immediate vacancy. Several months later, Jeffrey Shernov joined as the new guitarist. Mind Games followed soon after and registered strong reception across numerous regions of Asia and Europe. Growing visibility brought a legal dispute over the band name, prompting the switch to Eternity X. Ahead of the subsequent record, keyboardist Jamie Mazur was added to the lineup. The Edge surfaced in 1997, marking a more pronounced progressive turn that found the ensemble at a creative peak, with its music, lyrics, and performances standing out for their distinctiveness, range, and excellence. In July of that year, Jeffrey Shernov exited without prior notice and was succeeded by Kevin Reilly.
