Formed in Munich in 1985, the German progressive metal outfit Sieges Even began with vocalist Franz Herde, guitarist Markus Steffen, bassist Oliver Holzwarth, and his brother Alex on drums. Their first demo, Symphonies of Steel, surfaced the next year and was followed in 1987 by Bootleg-Cassette. Three further demos—Apocalyptic Disposition, Violent Alterations, and Repression and Resistance—preceded the band’s signing with Steamhammer, which brought their official debut album, Life Cycle, in 1988. After Steps appeared in 1990, Herde departed and was succeeded by singer Jogi Kaiser for the 1991 release A Sense of Change. Kaiser and Steffen both soon left, so the next LP, Sophisticated, did not arrive until 1995, when it featured new frontman Greg Keller and guitarist Wolfgang Zenk. Uneven came out two years later and proved to be the group’s final statement, although Steffen and the Holzwarth brothers later reunited in Looking-Glass Self.
