Blending the styles of Sublime, Carrot Top, Kottonmouth Kings, Cheech & Chong, crunk music, and jam band traditions, Memphis rapper Muck Sticky sets out to broadcast peace, love, and enjoyment worldwide while holding a microphone in one hand and his treasured bong in the other. A gospel bluegrass quartet once included his great-grandfather, and his grandfather supplied piano for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Charley Pride. This family background in music naturally sparked Muck Sticky’s own interest from an early age, beginning with classical violin lessons at ten. He continued those studies until high school drama classes and time in a heavy metal cover band shifted his direction first toward comedy rock and then comedy rap. In 2001 he left the metal band behind and started laying down demo tracks. A role as tour merchandise representative took him on the road with hometown heroes Saliva from 2003 onward, but he never stopped recording. By bringing a four-track into hotel rooms he managed to complete and issue the Nifty Mervous Thrifty album in 2004 and the Sticky Muck album in 2005, both through his own Stay Lifted label. After pausing his touring schedule in 2006 he put out Muck Sticky Wants You. The next year he released Bobolink Cove, appeared as a guest on Lord T & Eloise’s Aristocrunk, and secured a distribution arrangement with Select-O-Hits. That partnership made the party-oriented Muck Sticky Is My Friend his first album to receive wide distribution upon its 2008 release.
