Muddy Magnolias emerged as a soulful folk-rock duo when Brooklyn-born Jessy Wilson joined forces with Kallie North, who hails from Texas. The pair of singer-songwriters first connected by chance in 2014 during Wilson’s trip to Nashville alongside her mentor, R&B singer John Legend. While she was recording demos at the BMI office, a framed photograph of a battle-scarred juke joint piano—captured by North—caught her attention. An introduction soon followed, and the two quickly formed a creative alliance that fused Southern country and blues grit with urban rock textures. Their first release, the single “American Woman,” arrived in 2015, with the full-length Broken People appearing the next year.
