Active since 1996, the British house duo Mutiny UK comprises Dylan Barnes and Rob Davy. Across their career they have issued multiple albums and mix compilations alongside numerous singles while also delivering remixes for acts that span Shanks & Bigfoot and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Their bright, club-oriented productions emphasize driving rhythms and an upbeat, carefree mood that sometimes incorporates playful sexual overtones. Although the pair occasionally supply vocals themselves, their albums have featured guest appearances by singers ranging from dancehall reggae MC Sweetie Irie to house legend Robert Owens. Mutiny UK have delivered DJ sets worldwide, holding residencies at venues such as Pacha Ibiza and Womb Tokyo.

Dylan Barnes began his musical path after relocating to London, where he performed with assorted funk and jazz ensembles across the city. During his time in the U.K., Barnes launched the piano-driven house project Helicopter alongside fellow funk guitarist Simon Ratcliffe. From that group the two advanced to composing and tracking an early incarnation of material that would evolve into Mutiny UK. Once Ratcliffe left to establish Basement Jaxx, Barnes founded the Sunflower imprint and issued the Mutiny UK EP Give in 1996. That same year he joined forces with producer Rob Davy, already recognized for overseeing multiple house and hip-hop remixes on labels including Tommy Boy. Working the international club circuit from South Beach to Ibiza, the pair began shaping a distinctive sound rooted in their shared jazz and reggae experience while folding in prominent strands of house and disco. This updated version of Mutiny UK quickly resonated within the dance community, earning widespread recognition. Additional 12" EPs and singles appeared throughout the remainder of the decade, and in 2000 they reworked Detroit Grand Pubahs' hit "Sandwiches" together with Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Take Me Home (A Girl Like Me)."

Mutiny UK reached their greatest mainstream visibility through the singles "Secrets" and "The Virus," both released on Virgin sublabel VC Recordings in 2001 and both entering the U.K. pop charts. The tracks featured on the duo's debut album, In the Now. New York's System Recordings later gave the set a delayed U.S. release in January 2003 in a modestly revised form that prompted comparisons to the party-ready grooves of Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx. Also in 2003, Mutiny UK shared the double mix CD Underwater, Episode 2 with former Underworld DJ Darren Emerson on Underwater Records. The following year the label put out the duo's second full-length collection of original material, Yada Yada.

Following 2004 the pair entered an extended hiatus, issuing no new material until the 2011 single "Swimming with Sharks" on Josh Wink and King Britt's Ovum Recordings. Several further digital singles surfaced in subsequent years before the duo's third album, Hot Sake, appeared at the close of 2014 and included guest vocals from members of Blancmange, GusGus, and Dirty Vegas. In 2016 Mutiny UK released Mutations, an album blending remixes and edits drawn from their catalog with additional new tracks.
