Singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor Nick Jonas first gained fame as one member of the massively successful Disney Channel sibling pop/rock group the Jonas Brothers. Beginning in 2010, his energies shifted toward independent endeavors that included solo releases, stage musicals, and screen roles in both film and television.

Within the Jonas Brothers, Nick functioned as the quiet architect, cultivating a devoted young following through buoyant, family-friendly pop tracks. Born in Texas and raised in New Jersey, this prodigy shared frontman duties with older brother Joe yet supplied the bulk of the material, drawing on his early Broadway tenure and affinity for timeless pop songcraft. He had performed since age seven, when he entered the Broadway production of Annie Get Your Gun; his first songwriting credit arrived in 2002 after a holiday composition created with his father appeared on a Broadway charity album. Columbia Records offered a deal two years afterward. While preparing solo work, Nick collaborated with brothers Kevin and Joe, who soon joined as full partners, transforming the project into the band they called the Jonas Brothers.

The group required several years to connect with listeners. Their 2006 debut It’s About Time failed commercially, prompting Columbia to release them in 2007. After signing with Hollywood Records that same year, they cultivated an audience—largely young and female—through Disney platforms, guest spots on network series, their own show, a made-for-TV movie alongside Demi Lovato, and nearly two million sales of their self-titled second album. A Little Bit Longer repeated the achievement in 2008, followed by Lines, Vines and Trying Times in 2009. Nick contributed substantially to every release, guiding the writing while performing on drums, keyboards, and guitar.

Stepping briefly away from the band, he assembled a side project that included former members of Prince’s New Power Generation such as Michael Bland and Tommy Barbarella; the ensemble took the name Nick Jonas & the Administration and issued its debut album Who I Am in early 2010. That year he also performed in a West End staging of Les Misérables. In 2011 he returned to the stage as Link Larkin in a Hollywood Bowl production of Hairspray. By 2012 he had expanded into non-musical work with a guest appearance on the CBS series Hawaii Five-O and a co-hosting role at Miss USA 2013 on NBC.

Although the brothers had begun recording a follow-up to Lines, Vines and Trying Times, they announced their separation in 2013, dissolving the Jonas Brothers. Several tracks intended for the unfinished fifth album surfaced later that year on the farewell EP LiVe. In 2014 Nick joined Demi Lovato for select dates on her Neon Lights tour, serving additionally as musical and creative director. His second solo album, the self-titled Nick Jonas, arrived in fall 2014 and included the singles “Chains” and “Jealous.”
