Night Tapes, a London-based dream pop group, craft densely layered productions and insistent shadowy rhythms that showcase the otherworldly vocals of Estonian singer Iiris Vesik. The three housemates—Vesik, Sam Richards, and Max Doohan—converted relaxed nightly jam sessions into a formal band whose 2021 EP Download Spirit earned them a Nettwerk recording contract. Their 2023 follow-up Perfect Kindness raised the group’s profile just before the arrival of the single “Drifting.”

Born in Tallinn, Vesik had already released a solo EMI album and several EPs in Estonia before settling in London, where she joined forces with English musicians Richards and Doohan. Living together, the trio slipped naturally into repeated rounds of sonic experimentation. Working at the more percussive edge of dream pop, they combined dusky mid-fi guitars and synths with slow, throbbing dance grooves that cradle Vesik’s high, spectral tone. Under the name Night Tapes they issued the brief three-track EP Dream Forever in Glorious Stereo in 2019. The fuller Download Spirit appeared the following year as momentum built. In 2022 they joined Nettwerk Music Group, whose release of the relaxed single “Humans” carried their music to a broader audience. The 2023 singles “Selene” and “Inigo” both appeared on Perfect Kindness; later that year the band issued the LEISURE collaboration “All the Good Times Never Die” and their own “Drifting.” Their first 2024 release was the breezy “Loner.”
