Biography
Singer Njomza, whose name is pronounced "nee-ohm-zuh," first gained notice through featured appearances on tracks by major figures spanning pop, hip-hop, and electronic music, among them Ariana Grande, Mac Miller, and Skrillex, prior to issuing her own material. Her initial collection of polished pop songs reached listeners via the 2017 EP sad for you. Two further EPs arrived afterward—Vacation in 2018 and the more intimate, bedroom-R&B-oriented LIMBO in 2021—while guest turns on other artists’ releases continued, notably the 2021 Dark Heart track “Over & Over.” Standalone offerings such as “Clown” surfaced in 2022. Among her most prominent compositional contributions are the Ariana Grande smashes “7 Rings” and “thank u, next.”
Njomza Vitia entered the world in Germany yet grew up in Chicago, where she began entering vocal competitions during kindergarten. In her early teenage years she joined a band, only to leave at sixteen in order to concentrate on a solo path. That same period, 2010, saw her uploading social-media clips of herself covering material by artists such as Adele, Kid Cudi, and Mac Miller; she soon added performances of her own compositions. Miller eventually came across the channel and placed her on his imprint Remember Records.
The 2015 co-lead single she shared with Miller, “Creatures of the Night,” carried production credits for Miller alongside input from Earl Sweatshirt. The following year brought a feature on Skrillex and Team EZY’s “Pretty Bye Bye,” after which her own recording career opened with the 2017 arrival of sad for you. Also in 2017 she scored a modest dance-airplay success with “Caskets,” a joint effort alongside Party Favor and FKi 1st. She subsequently aligned with Sincethe80s/Motown for the 2018 EP Vacation. Additional exposure arrived that year when she appeared, together with Bipolar Sunshine, on the DAVAULT single “Stay,” another track she helped write.
Her songwriting momentum persisted into 2019 with the global chart-topping Ariana Grande singles “7 Rings” and “thank u, next.” The same twelve months also marked her first North American headlining tour and the release of the woozy soul cut “No One Is Spared.” Mid-2021 brought the guest-filled EP LIMBO, which included appearances by Ari Lennox, Wurld, Russ, and Metro Marrs. One of her most widely streamed performances that year came via the Dark Heart collaboration “Over & Over.” In 2022 she issued solo singles that ranged from the minimalist “noisy” to the dance-oriented “Clown.”
