Biography
Hailing from Los Angeles, the vocalist and tunesmith who records as No/Me blends intimate, confessional words with brightly colored, rhythmically skewed pop constructions. The performing name belongs to Naomi Brackets and functions as a dual reference to her legal name and the phrase “know me.” Her first major-label outing arrived with the single “Consistent,” issued in 2018.
Brackets’s childhood featured a father who crooned Joni Mitchell numbers in lieu of nursery rhymes; later, a high-school English instructor played her music by the Shins, prompting an immediate affinity for the wordcraft of James Mercer. She subsequently enrolled in UCLA’s programs in Musicology and Music Industry. Following the 2016 presidential election she resolved to channel music toward constructive social impact and began coordinating and appearing at benefits for progressive organizations.
Republic Records signed No/Me, issuing her debut single “Consistent” in mid-2018. Built around electronics, thick bass, and Middle Eastern percussion—including darbuka performed by her brother—the track was soon placed on the FIFA 19 soundtrack next to Gorillaz and Childish Gambino.
