Interpreting to "I think of none other" in French, the mysterious New York artist Arthur Ashin performs under the moniker Autre Ne Veut, crafting sounds that blend '80s R&B hooks and melodies with Ariel Pink's hazy aesthetics. In August 2010, his self-titled debut album came out through Olde English Spelling Bee alongside Upstairs, Daniel Lopatin's imprint from Oneohtrix Point Never. During Hooray for Earth's fall residency at Piano's, Autre Ne Veut provided support, followed by joint performances with Zambri and Mirror Mirror at the start of 2011. Ashin put out the Body EP on Hippos in Tanks that same year and contributed to Ford & Lopatin's Channel Pressure. Early 2013 saw the arrival of Anxiety, drawing equal influence from the titular state and the works of Dr. Luke, David Byrne, plus Katy Perry. Serving as the middle installment in a planned trilogy exploring challenges of forging personal bonds amid a detached time, his third LP Age of Transparency appeared via Downtown Records toward the end of 2015.
