Biography
The indie art rock group Nurses first came together around 2004, though its members had been acquainted since elementary school. Acting on impulse, they left their Idaho hometown for California. Working in San Diego during 2006, they cut tracks alongside producer Jason Cupp (the Elected, Finch) before issuing the self-released Hangin' Nothin' But Our Hands Down. By spring 2007 the roster included Aaron Chapman (vocals, guitar, piano), John Bowers (guitar, piano, vocals), Bobby Bolton (drums, vocals), and Charlie Bolton (bass, vocals). When the band delivered its 2009 Dead Oceans debut Apple's Acre, recorded entirely on a laptop, only the core duo of Bowers and Chapman remained. Nurses broadened both its sonic palette and personnel for the 2011 release Dracula, bringing in James Mitchell and tracking the album inside a studio constructed within an Oregon cabin.
