Olivia Holt first rose to prominence as a singer and actress through her Disney Channel roles in the martial arts sitcom Kickin' It and the 2012 movie Girl vs. Monster, later issuing her introductory EP Olivia during 2016.

Born in 1997, she spent her early years in Tennessee and Mississippi until her family relocated to Los Angeles. Throughout childhood she pursued gymnastics and local theater productions, securing multiple national television commercial bookings in the process. Her screen debut arrived in 2009 with the independent drama Black and Blue. Four years later, at age 13, she joined the ensemble of the Disney martial arts sitcom Kickin' It. The next year, while continuing the series, she took the lead in the Disney Channel original film Girl vs. Monster and contributed three songs that appeared on the Walt Disney compilation Make Your Mark: Ultimate Playlist. She departed Kickin' It in 2014 to headline the follow-up Disney sitcom I Didn't Do It and, still that year, signed with Hollywood Records. In 2016, while balancing series work and additional television appearances, she unveiled her debut EP Olivia, which featured the uplifting pop single “Phoenix” written and produced by Steve Mac (One Direction, James Blunt, Kelly Clarkson) and Nina Nesbitt. Returning to acting in 2017, she appeared in Same Kind of Different as Me alongside Renée Zellweger and Greg Kinnear as well as Class Rank, directed by Eric Stoltz. In 2018 she portrayed the superhero Tandy Bowen, also known as Dagger, in the Freeform Marvel series Cloak & Dagger. Subsequent releases included “Generous,” which reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. She collaborated with Nicky Romero on “Distance” in 2019, then delivered “Bad Girlfrien,” “Talk Me Out of It,” and “Love U Again (feat. R3hab)” the following year.
