An actress and singer whose bright vocal tone shifts fluidly from powerful to delicate is Dove Cameron. Initially featured on the Disney Channel, she later developed a more mature style, crafting moody and textural alt-pop releases such as Alchemical: Vol. 1 in 2023. As a teenager entering the Disney Channel roster, her acting prominence grew through a Daytime Emmy-winning performance portraying the identical twins Liv and Maddie from 2013 to 2017, alongside her role as Mal, the daughter of Maleficent portrayed by Kristin Chenoweth, within the Descendants series. Serving as a key presence on the lively Top Ten soundtracks for that franchise, she introduced a reflective and atmospheric approach via her initial solo release, the two-track "Bloodshot/Waste," during 2019. In 2022, her track "Boyfriend" reached the Top 20 on the Billboard 200, setting the stage for the initial portion of her debut full-length project, Alchemical: Vol. 1.

Born in Bainbridge Island, Washington, Cameron started her acting journey through community theater productions at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Relocating with her family to Los Angeles as a teenager, she enrolled at Burbank High School, where she participated in the choir while launching her pursuit of acting opportunities.

Securing the lead role as Alanna in the Disney Channel project Bits and Pieces in 2012 after accumulating several television appearances, the program underwent revisions by 2013, transforming into the sitcom Liv and Maddie, in which she portrayed the central characters Liv and Maddie Rooney. Her vocal contributions on the series included various numbers, among them a rendition of Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World" and the show's theme "Better in Stereo," both issued digitally, with the latter achieving the top position on Billboard's Kid Digital Songs chart. The full display of her singing talents came in 2015 through the soundtrack collection Liv and Maddie: Music from the TV Series. That same year, she took part in the successful Disney Channel movie Descendants and contributed to its soundtrack, which topped the Billboard 200.

Forming a pop duo known as the Girl and the Dreamcatcher alongside Liv and Maddie castmate Ryan McCartan, they issued their initial single "Written in the Stars" in 2015, followed by the EP Negatives in July 2016. In December of that year, she took on the part of Amber Von Tussle in the NBC broadcast Hairspray Live!, a televised version of the acclaimed musical derived from John Waters' cult classic film. Three musical numbers from her performance appeared on the corresponding cast album, issued days after the premiere.

With the 2017 debut of Descendants 2, its soundtrack climbed to number six on the Billboard 200. Reaching the Top Ten of that chart once more, August 2019's Descendants 3 marked the third consecutive success for the series in that regard. The track "Night Falls," involving Cameron and additional cast members, entered the Hot 100, and she provided voice work for a character in the animated film The Angry Birds Movie.

Cameron's inaugural solo EP, titled "Bloodshot/Waste," came out in September 2019 through Sony/Disruptor. Subsequent releases included the 2020 collaboration "Remember Me" featuring Bia and "LazyBaby" in 2021. The 2022 arrival of "Boyfriend" placed it at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, serving as the lead single for her first album. Issued in two installments, Alchemical: Vol. 1 surfaced in December 2023, presenting Cameron's most mature work yet as she merged electronic pop, goth, and orchestral elements. Besides "Boyfriend," the project featured the singles "Sand" and "White Glove."
