A soulful vocalist shaped by R&B and Latin textures, Lauren Jauregui first drew notice as a contestant in the vocal ensemble Fifth Harmony during the 2012 season of The X Factor. Alongside the group she issued three Billboard 200 Top Ten albums, among them Reflection in 2015 and 7/27 in 2017, while appearing on the singles “Worth It,” “Boss,” and “Work from Home.” Parallel to those efforts she launched individual projects, joining Halsey on “Strangers” and Steve Aoki on “All Night,” both released in 2017. After unveiling the standalone single “Expectations” in 2018, she delivered her first solo EP, Prelude, in 2021.

Jauregui entered the world in Miami, Florida, in 1996, raised in a household whose Cuban-born parents had immigrated to the United States. Drawn to music early, she also competed in athletics and school talent shows at her Catholic institution. During adolescence her listening encompassed Alicia Keys, Paramore, Christina Aguilera, and additional artists. At sixteen she tried out for The X Factor in Greensboro, North Carolina, performing Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You.” Although eliminated in the second boot-camp stage, Simon Cowell and the panel recalled her, grouping her with Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Camila Cabello to create Fifth Harmony. The act ultimately placed third yet emerged as the season’s most commercially durable act.

The ensemble signed with Epic Records domestically and Syco Records in Britain, issuing the EP Better Together in October 2013; Spanish-language counterparts Juntos and Juntos Acoustic, plus a remix collection, followed within weeks. Their first single, “Miss Movin’ On,” became the highest-charting U.S. X Factor release to that point. Reflection, the debut full-length, arrived in early 2015 and featured “Sledgehammer,” penned by Meghan Trainor, and “Worth It,” which included rapper Kid Ink. The project entered the Billboard 200 at number five and later earned gold certification. That same year the group mounted its inaugural headlining tour.

Outside Fifth Harmony, Jauregui advanced her independent work. In 2016 she appeared on Marian Hill’s “Back to Me.” The next year she collaborated with Halsey on “Strangers,” included on the latter’s second album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, then joined Steve Aoki for “All Night,” featured on Neon Future III. Also in 2017 she reunited with Fifth Harmony for 7/27, titled after the date the members were formally assembled on The X Factor and boasting production from DallasK, Stargate, Kygo, and further studio regulars. The set debuted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and yielded the singles “The Life” and “Work from Home,” the latter featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

After the album’s release Cabello departed, leaving Jauregui and the remaining members to continue as a quartet. In summer 2017 they returned with the self-titled Fifth Harmony, led by the single “Down” featuring rapper Gucci Mane. The record also contained the Skrillex- and Poo Bear-produced track “Angel” along with further contributions from Ammo, DallasK, the Monsters & Strangerz, and others. Following promotional touring the group entered an indefinite hiatus, allowing Jauregui to concentrate on solo material. She issued her first independent single, “Expectations,” in 2018 and served as opening act for the Latin American dates of Halsey’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom tour. Another standalone cut, “More Than That,” surfaced in January 2019. The subsequent year she contributed “Invisible Chains” to the Birds of Prey soundtrack and released the Tainy-produced “Lento.” In November 2021 Jauregui issued her debut EP, Prelude, which included guest appearances by Vic Mensa and 6lack.
