Singer Ally Brooke first rose to fame in 2012 as part of the all-girl pop outfit Fifth Harmony, where her blend of pop, Latin, and R&B styles helped shape the group’s sound. Alongside her bandmates she appeared on three Billboard 200 top-ten albums—most notably 2015’s Reflection and 2017’s 7/27—and contributed to hit singles such as “Worth It,” “Boss,” and “Work from Home.” Once Fifth Harmony entered a hiatus, Brooke launched her solo path with the 2018 track “Vámonos” and her official debut single, “Low Key,” the following year.

Born Allyson Brooke Hernandez in San Antonio in 1993, she attended a Christian elementary school before being homeschooled through most of her teenage years. During that time she developed a passion for performance, absorbing a range of Mexican and Tejano music alongside pop and R&B, with Selena and Jennifer Lopez serving as primary inspirations. In 2012 she auditioned for The X Factor by performing Jaci Velasquez’s “On My Knees.” Although eliminated during boot camp, she was promptly recalled by judge Simon Cowell to join the newly formed girl group Fifth Harmony with Normani Kordei Hamilton, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, and Camila Cabello. After placing third on the show, Brooke and her bandmates secured deals with Epic Records in the United States and Syco Records in Britain. Their first single, “Miss Movin’ On,” became the highest-charting U.S. X Factor release to date. In 2015 the group delivered the full-length Reflection, which featured Meghan Trainor-penned “Sledgehammer” and the Kid Ink-assisted “Worth It.” The set entered the Billboard 200 at number five and later earned gold certification.

Brooke remained with Fifth Harmony for their second album, 7/27, whose title referenced the date the quintet was assembled on The X Factor. The project drew on production from DallasK, Stargate, Kygo, and additional hitmakers, debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, and yielded the singles “The Life” and “Work from Home” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Following its release, Cabello departed, leaving Brooke and the remaining members to continue as a quartet. In summer 2017 they issued the self-titled Fifth Harmony, which included the Gucci Mane collaboration “Down” and the Skrillex- and Poo Bear-produced “Angel.” After touring in support of the record, the group announced an indefinite hiatus.

Outside the band, Brooke began exploring individual projects. She joined Lost Kings and A$AP Ferg on the 2017 track “Look at Us Now” and appeared on DJ Topic’s 2018 cut “Perfect.” In March 2018 she signed with Maverick/ReignDeer Entertainment for management, and by August she had secured a solo recording contract with Latium Entertainment and Atlantic Records. That year she released two singles: “Vámonos,” a collaboration with Dutch DJ trio Kriss Kross Amsterdam, and Diane Warren’s “The Truth Is in There,” issued as part of Weight Watchers International’s “Wellness That Works” campaign. In January 2019 she unveiled her official debut solo single, “Low Key,” featuring Tyga.
