Biography
One Hit Wonder operates out of Long Beach, California, as a punk band known for its wholesome and high-spirited approach to performance. Lead guitarist and vocalist Dan Root contributed guitar to the Vandals’ appearance in the film Dudes. Drummer Chris Web, a former member of No Doubt, also performs with Wax Apple. Bassist Randy Bradbury recorded on the group’s first two albums before departing to join Pennywise, though he still sits in with One Hit Wonder from time to time; Daniel Gadberry took over the bass chair. Original guitarist Trey Pangborn gave way to Ray “Bones” Rodriguez, a former professional skateboarder who had already played guitar with Bloodshot and X-Members.
Rockworld issued the band’s debut album, Where’s the World, in 1994. Two years later Lethal released Clusterphukastuff. NIT signed the group in 1997 and put out Outfall, then followed with Who the Hell Is One Hit Wonder in 1998. One Hit Wonder also contributed the track “Madam’s Apple” to the June 1999 compilation Short Music for Short People. The two full-length albums showcased increasingly assured songwriting that steered the band toward a punk style at once hard-driven, deliberate, fast, and melodic, earning One Hit Wonder a nomination for Best Punk Band at the California Music Awards.
