MC Opio, recognized primarily through his roles in Hieroglyphics and Souls of Mischief, occasionally pursues independent projects, frequently teaming up with unconventional producers. The year 2004 marked his first solo effort as Hieroglyphics Imperium put out the LP Masterpiece Theatre. The label issued Triangulation Station the next year, and Vulture's Wisdom, Vol. 1 appeared as a mixtape in 2008, with its successor Vol. 2 arriving in 2012. A 2014 joint effort with San Francisco rapper Equipto resulted in Red XX, and 2015 brought a partnership with producer Free the Robots on Sempervirens.
