Pedro Ayala

Genre: Latin
Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
From childhood onward, Pedro Ayala performed as an accordionist in the norteño and conjunto traditions. His initial preference for the guitar shifted toward the accordion following the 1928 murder of his brother Francisco, who also played that instrument. By his mid-twenties he had committed to a full-time career, performing across Texas’s Rio Grande Valley. His debut recordings appeared during the late 1940s, after which he continued to cut tracks for multiple labels over the following decades. Material drawn from the late 1960s and early 1970s, together with selected late-1940s sides, appears on the Arhoolie compilation El Monarca Del Acordeon.
