Since 1965 Pedro Luis Ferrer has remained active in Cuban music as a singer, guitarist, tres player and composer whose guaracha-style compositions merge classical influences with those of Cuban popular music while focusing on the daily realities and hardships of ordinary citizens. Born in the modest Cuban town of Yanguaji, he relocated to Havana in 1965 with the goal of immersing himself in the local music community. There he performed alongside Carlos Alfonso and Mike Porcella, teaming with the latter in the Cuban-rock fusion outfit Los Dada. Over the ensuing years he developed a steady following for his own material, which later received recordings by artists such as Celia Cruz, Danny Rivera, Papo Luca and Willy Chirino. In 1999 he issued his first official U.S. album on Atlantic Records, bearing the plain title Pedro Luis Ferrer.
