Biography
Formed in 2004 by four French teenagers, the all-female garage rock revival band the Plastiscines brought together Katty Besnard on guitar and vocals, Marine Neuilly on guitar, Louise Basilien on bass guitar, and Zazie Tavitian on drums. Their name originated in a line from the Beatles classic “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” (“plasticine porters with looking glass ties”). The group forged a bold, guitar-driven sound while drawing on the Kinks, the White Stripes, the Strokes, Blondie, and the Libertines as reference points. EMI/Virgin France signed them in 2006, and their major-label debut LP1 appeared the following summer. To record the next album, About Love, the members relocated to Los Angeles to work with producer Butch Walker; the record came out in 2009 and, several months later, earned extra attention when the band appeared prominently in an episode of Gossip Girl.
