Phil Cross, a songwriter whose gospel compositions have enjoyed over a decade of success, counts the Dove Award-winning "Champion of Love" among his achievements. Even though various performers had success with his material, Cross felt compelled to deliver his songs and message directly, which prompted him to assemble the vocal quartet known as Poet Voices. In their debut year, Poet Voices propelled "Jesus Built a Bridge" to the number one position on gospel charts. Subsequent releases included multiple entries that reached the Top Ten, and the group achieved chart-topping status with Cross's compositions "Gotta Go Back," "I Am Redeemed," and "Grace and Glory." Serving as lead vocalist, Cross—born in 1957 and residing in Georgia—is married and has one child; his songwriting credits encompass "Wedding Music," "Saved to the Uttermost," "When I Get Carried Away," and "There's a Miracle in Me." The youngest member, Richie Works, calls Tennessee home and entered the world in 1981. Born the next year, Scott Inman also resides in Tennessee; he is the son of gospel singer Clayton Inman. Another Tennessee native, tenor Dale Brock—nicknamed "Tadpole"—was born in 1965, is married, and has two children. Completing the lineup, bass vocalist Tim Duncan, born in 1971, lives in Alabama with his wife and their two children, having trained under London Parris.
