Postgirobygget formed in the mid-1990s in Trondheim as a Norwegian pop/rock outfit that would later top the national charts. The lineup features Arne Hurlén on vocals and guitar alongside Nils Petter Time on guitar, Øyvind Kolset on keyboards, Nicolai Hauan on bass, and Per Sarin Madsen on drums; founding bassist Gunnar Westgaard remained until his departure in 2008. The group first appeared on record in 1995 via the demo releases Vennligst Lukk Døren and Rivd, then stepped into commercial circulation the following year with the EMI album Melis. That debut effort lodged itself on the Norwegian albums chart for 70 weeks, climbed to number two more than a year after its arrival, and yielded the Top 20 single “Idyll.” Their sophomore set, Essensuell, arrived in 1997 and reached the summit. Although Supertanker from 1999 entered the Top Ten and 4-4-2 from 2001 reached the Top 20, the band reclaimed the number-one position with the 2003 double-disc retrospective Best Av Alt, which gathered career highlights, earlier demos, and live recordings. Tidløs followed in 2007, also hitting the top spot; its title track became the group’s highest-charting single to that point by peaking at number three. The sixth album, Øyeblikk, surfaced in 2009, landed inside the Top Ten, and featured the single “Luftmadrass.”
