In 1982 Michael Krohn, at the time the drummer for punk outfit Kjott, founded the Raga Rockers after his proposal to steer that group toward heavier rock was rejected. One of Norway’s most commercially dominant rock acts ever, the band issued its debut Return of the Raga Rockers in 1983 and swiftly cultivated an enormous domestic audience through a style rooted in the Ramones and the prevailing new-wave currents. After several hit albums the members declared a breakup in 1991, yet a four-year series of farewell concerts kept them together; they ultimately scrapped retirement plans and resumed studio work with the comeback release Perler for Svin. The group again vanished in 2000, an absence widely linked to the death of their friend Jokke of Jokke & the Valentines, before reappearing in 2005, although Krohn meanwhile pursued various side projects. Their 2007 album Ubermensch entered the Norwegian charts at number one.
