Prince Po, also known as Prince Poetry, first gained recognition as half of the 1990s rap duo Organized Konfusion alongside Pharoahe Monch. Born and raised in Queens, he helped launch the pair’s self-titled debut album in 1991, which quickly drew attention within the hip-hop community. After releasing two further records over the next six years, Monch and Po chose to step away from the group, though speculation about a possible reunion persisted. Each artist then moved forward independently; Monch, in particular, built his profile with the widely praised 1999 release Internal Affairs.

During work on Jemini’s Ghetto Pop Life in 2002, Po connected with producer Danger Mouse. Their rapport led to Po’s appearance on the track “Copy Cats” and to an agreement that Danger Mouse would handle several beats for Po’s forthcoming solo project, Slickness. Issued in 2004 by the British imprint Lex, the album restored Po’s standing as a leading MC. The follow-up, Prettyblack, arrived in summer 2006. In 2014 he joined forces with producer Oh No on the joint effort Animal Serum.
