Drawn to the clamor of shoegaze acts alongside the understated charm of C-86 bands, Adam Malec and Andrea Belair launched Procedure Club during December 2007 in New Haven, CT. The pair first issued a restricted batch of CD-Rs and cassettes featuring sparse home-studio takes that blended bass lines, drum-machine beats, and layers of guitar distortion beneath Andrea’s delicate, floating vocals. Those efforts led to a freely downloadable full-length via BEKO DSL as well as the 7-inch Slut Fossil, which appeared on Sixteen Tambourines. By 2010 the duo had joined the roster of Slumberland Records—an imprint already hosting like-minded groups such as Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Black Tambourine, and the Lodger—prompting Malec and Belair to begin preparing material for their debut proper release.
