Radkey

Emerging from St. Joseph, Missouri, the garage punk outfit Radkey came together in 2010 through siblings Dee, Isaiah, and Solomon Radke, whose music-obsessed father had surrounded them with an extensive array of punk, rock, and metal albums. The trio took shape once Isaiah handed Dee a bass guitar for use in a nearby covers group; after catching his brother onstage, Isaiah sought his own spot in the lineup, prompting the youngest sibling, Solomon, to take up drums. Following extended bedroom rehearsals, their first breaks arrived via a support slot with the '90s funk-metal pioneers Fishbone at their debut performance and an invitation to track the initial EP, Cat & Mouse, at New York's Wreckroom studio, owned by Entourage star Adrian Grenier. Damien Paris of the Giraffes handled production on the 2012 release, which stirred considerable online interest and opened doors to high-profile appearances at the Afro-Punk Festival, South by Southwest, and Chicago's Riot Fest. To promote the follow-up EP, Devil Fruit, issued in 2013, the band traveled to the U.K. for Download Festival and performed on the BBC's Later with Jools Holland. Their growing popularity soon led their father to resign from his role as a loss-prevention officer at Walmart and assume full-time managerial duties. The anticipated debut album, Dark Black Makeup, was recorded in San Francisco, California, and Sheffield, England, under producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, the Fall, Jarvis Cocker) and surfaced in summer 2015; Another Century Records reissued the set with bonus tracks the next year as Delicious Rock Noise.
