Rapper and producer redveil moves with equal ease between introspective verses set against dusty soul samples and sharp boasts driven by aggressive, blown-out trap drums. Born in D.C. and raised in Maryland, the artist issued his first commercial release in 2019 with the introspective single “Bare Naked Hatred,” a track whose emotional depth exceeded expectations for someone then only fifteen. Before the year closed he delivered the full-length Bittersweet Cry, the first of several projects that would follow in quick succession: Niagara in 2020, learn 2 swim in 2022 (notable for the track “pg baby”), and the 2023 EP playing w/ fire, supplemented by numerous standalone singles.

Marcus Morton, known professionally as redveil, absorbed his parents’ record collection from an early age and developed an insatiable appetite for music. A ride in his brother’s car during which he heard the Internet’s “Palace/Curse,” featuring Tyler, The Creator and Steve Lacy, prompted him to begin making beats at eleven. Four years later, in July 2019, he released his debut single “Bare Naked Hatred,” which featured Kira Corduroy. Two additional tracks preceded the December arrival of Bittersweet Cry. A string of singles, chief among them “Soulfood,” paved the way for Niagara, whose song “Drown”—a collaboration with Donte Thomas and D’mari Harris—appeared on Tyler, The Creator’s list of favorite tracks from 2020.

learn 2 swim reached listeners in April 2022, propelled by the assertive “pg baby” and the more measured, hallucinatory “morphine (da ways).” The following year redveil issued playing w/ fire, which included guest appearances by JPEGMAFIA on “black enuff” and Mekdelawit on “f2g.” In 2024 he released the singles “WHEW LAWD” and “what3ver.” By the close of that year his own guest spots and joint ventures had reached several dozen and encompassed work with Langston Bristol and Martin Craft on “Activate,” JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown on “Kingdom Hearts,” and Arlo Parks on “Blades.”
