Hailing from Longview, Texas, country comedian Rodney Carrington developed a devoted audience through frequent appearances on nationally syndicated morning radio programs while simultaneously maintaining a nonstop schedule of performances across the comedy club circuit nationwide. His first album, Hangin' with Rodney, arrived in the middle of 1998, followed by Rodney Carrington: Live the next year and Morning Wood in mid-2000. Following the 2003 release of Nut Sack, Carrington obtained his own ABC sitcom titled Rodney, which lasted two seasons from 2004 through 2006. King of the Mountains, issued in 2007, entered the Top 20 on Billboard's Country Albums chart, and the following year he co-wrote and co-starred in the film Beer for My Horses alongside Toby Keith. Keith went on to produce El Niño Loco, Carrington's debut album consisting solely of songs, which came out in 2009. Before the year ended, he delivered Make It Christmas, his initial holiday album and one devoted mostly to serious material. After a five-year absence, he resurfaced with the live set Laughter's Good, containing stories about church, Vegas, and monkeys eating poop.
