Bill Engvall

Hailing from Galveston, Texas, Bill Engvall worked as a Dallas nightclub DJ before the pull of stand-up grew impossible to ignore. Following strong showings at amateur nights in several area venues plus a short period based in St. Louis, he reached Los Angeles in 1990. There he co-hosted the Pair of Jokers cable special alongside Rosie O'Donnell and logged appearances on Evening at the Improv plus The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Best Male Standup honors arrived at the 1992 American Comedy Awards, after which Engvall entered sitcom work via a Designing Women guest spot and a regular role on the brief series Delta. Warner Bros. signed him in 1996, leading to the countrified debut Here's Your Sign, which shared its title with his signature routine. A subsequent run of dates with fellow everyman comic Jeff Foxworthy yielded a short-lived recurring part on Foxworthy's own sitcom. Dorkfish arrived in 1998, and both that release and the debut were later certified gold. The holiday set Here's Your Christmas Album also surfaced that year.

Now That's Awesome reached stores in mid-2000, coinciding with the launch of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour that again featured Foxworthy plus newcomers Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White. The four-man show enjoyed widespread popularity and continued across multiple years, generating further albums, a feature film, and a cable series. Even amid the group's achievements, Engvall kept issuing solo projects such as the 2002 autobiography Cheap Drunk: An Autobiography and the sixth album Here's Your Sign Reloaded the following year. A Decade of Laughs, a career-spanning collection, appeared in fall 2004, with the fresh effort 15° Off Cool arriving in February 2007. Aged and Confused came next in 2009. After Ron White's exit the Blue Collar Comedy Tour concluded, yet Engvall reunited with Foxworthy and Larry for the 2012 Them Idiots Whirled Tour and its accompanying album. He joined the seventeenth season of Dancing with the Stars as a contestant in 2013, and Ultimate Laughs, another career overview, surfaced in 2014.
