Biography
John Pinette earned acclaim as an American performer across stage, screen, and stand-up, where his observational routines, resonant delivery, and precise vocal mimicry stood out. Among the impressions he perfected were the Chipmunks, Elvis Presley, Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, Hervé Villechaize in his role as Tattoo on Fantasy Island, and Marlon Brando. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he completed his secondary education at a Catholic high school during the early 1980s before receiving an accounting degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1986. Encouraged by friends to pursue comedy, he advanced rapidly enough to receive an invitation to tour alongside Frank Sinatra. Parallel to his stage work, he accumulated screen credits that included appearances on Alf, Seinfeld, and Parker Lewis Can't Lose, along with film roles in Junior, Dear God, Duets, and The Punisher. In 2004 he entered the touring company of the musical Hairspray and later transferred to its Broadway run. A frequent presence at festivals and a sought-after host and panelist, Pinette released several stand-up specials that appeared as concert albums and DVDs under the titles Show Me the Buffet, Making Lite of Myself, and Still Hungry. His life ended on April 5, 2014, when a pulmonary embolism claimed him at age 50 inside Pittsburgh’s Sheraton Square Hotel.
