French techno producer Roman Poncet generated an enormous catalog across just a handful of years. Working in styles that ranged from airy tech-house to dense, enveloping techno and adopting numerous pseudonyms, he quickly earned recognition as an emerging talent. His first album, Gypsophila, arrived in 2018.

Romain Reynaud entered the world in Avignon, located in southern France. After relocating to Paris he began releasing music in 2011 as the minimal tech-house artist Traumer, issuing the “Relief” EP on Skryptöm. Wider notice came two years later when Berlin techno figure Len Faki invited Reynaud to contribute to his Figure imprint. Under the Roman Poncet name, the 2013 “Route of Pain” EP presented stern, driving, utilitarian techno, soon complemented by a Truncate remix package. Poncet’s next outing, the 2014 Opening Moment EP on fellow Frenchman DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted label, led to a 2015 partnership that produced the Adventice project and a three-part EP series for Tresor. The same year the duo introduced the Sergie Rezza alias and released its self-titled album on Desire. Reynaud maintained activity as Traumer as well, placing the full-length Takt on Herzblut in 2014 and founding his own GetTraum imprint in 2016. Two additional Roman Poncet singles—“Asua,” a collaboration with Len Faki, and “Marguerite”—preceded the project’s debut album, Gypsophila, which surfaced on Figure in 2018. Expanding his sonic range, the record became only the second long-player issued by the label during its nearly decade-long existence.
