Roses & Revolutions craft an intimate yet theatrical strain of electro-pop that remains equally suited to the dance floor. Their debut track “The Pines” spread rapidly online after its September 2016 release, later appearing on the duo’s self-titled EP two years afterward. The 2020 release Under the Spell delved further into private themes, while subsequent singles such as the 2021 track “Coffee” reaffirmed their command of polished pop forms.

Vocalist Alyssa Coco and producer/multi-instrumentalist Matthew Merritt connected through social media during separate high-school years in Rochester, New York. Coco soon lent her voice to Merritt’s previously instrumental project, and the pair went on to perform together in several local groups before establishing Roses & Revolutions in 2014. The project’s inaugural single “The Pines” benefited from major playlist placement and quickly gained traction across Canada and the U.K.; Nettwerk Records signed the act before year’s end and issued the holiday-themed Winter Solstice EP in late 2017. The four-song collection of original material that carried the duo’s name followed in mid-2018. During this period they supported live dates for Marian Hill, KALEO, and Vérité, among others.

Conceived around a loose fairy-tale narrative the pair had outlined beforehand, Under the Spell arrived in 2020 and found Coco addressing her own experiences with anxiety. Additional 2021 singles included “Someone to You” and the Lostboycrow collaboration “Coffee.”
