Biography
Emerging from Blackebourg, Sweden, Sad Day for Puppets fuses shoegaze and indie pop into a sugar-spun sound, with guitarists Martin Kallholm and Marcus Sandgren, bassist Alex Svenson, drummer Micael Back, and vocalist Anna Eklund rounding out the lineup. Kallholm assembled the group in late 2006, and their opening single “Hush” surfaced in early 2008. The debut EP Just Like a Ghost followed in spring 2008 on Radio LXMBRG’s Haha Fonogram imprint. Work on the first album, Unknown Colours, began immediately after the EP and yielded a release that same fall. Tours of Japan and the U.K. alongside Television Personalities led to a deal with the British label Sonic Cathedral, which put out the Marble Gods/Big Waves single in March 2009 and saw it named BBC 6 Music Single of the Week. The download-only “Cherry Blossom” arrived later that spring to announce the U.K. edition of Unknown Colours, expanded with two bonus tracks, that summer.
