Confident and forceful in her delivery, rapper Sally Sossa spins personal stories that now and then reveal a more tender dimension. A native of Houston, she has named Nicki Minaj among her reference points while crediting early champion Lil Durk for guidance; she first stood out by posting initial recordings during her high-school years. Her label entry came as a teenager in 2020, after which she issued Life of Sossa (2021) and 4EVER SOSSA (2022), the latter projects propelled by the Durk-assisted “Star Song” and the Flo Milli-featured “Toot It Up.”

Born in 2002, Sossa acquired both her rhyming skill and a competitive edge through frequent family rap battles that marked her childhood. While still in high school she channeled much of that drive into basketball, yet an injury sidelined her from the court and elevated rap to her central focus. By seventeen she had placed numerous tracks and mixtapes online, moving beyond neighborhood recognition to attract support from established industry figures. Lil Durk quickly became a pivotal mentor; although he nearly secured an independent signing, she ultimately entered an agreement with Listen to the Kids, an Interscope-backed imprint.

The first release under that arrangement, “Who You Are,” amassed 500,000 streams within months during 2020. It was soon followed by “A Letter to the Streets,” “GMFU,” and “100 Flows,” all of which later appeared on Life of Sossa when the project arrived in September 2021. Where those cuts projected boldness, the gentler, piano-centered “Need Me” and “It Ain’t Love” highlighted her vulnerable side; the latter referenced her grandfather, an early supporter of her talent who passed away before her career took hold. Another reflective piece, the Lil Durk duet “Star Song,” registered as her most-streamed recording up to that moment. Less than a week after Life of Sossa’s arrival she dropped “TMU,” the opening track from her next effort. By the close of the following March she unveiled the EP 4EVER SOSSA; an expanded deluxe edition followed that September and was succeeded by singles including “Real Freak” and her first 2023 release, “Never Be the Same.”
