Biography
American singer/songwriter Coleridge Gardner Tillman, professionally known as Sebastian Kole, began his path by penning successful material for fellow performers before stepping forward as a lead vocalist. Born in 1989 to a devout household in Birmingham, Alabama, Tillman grew up attending services on a regular basis, where he sang in the choir and absorbed piano technique from his grandmother, the organist for those gatherings. While still in elementary school he took up the tuba; at age 13 he turned to rapping and composing original material. His sound evolved toward singing once he enrolled at the University of Alabama.
The pivotal moment arrived in 2012 when he co-wrote “Goin’ In,” a track that reached Jennifer Lopez and achieved commercial success. Using earnings from that single, Tillman relocated to Los Angeles in 2015 and promptly secured a recording contract with EP Entertainment and Motown. That same year he started collaborating with labelmate Alessia Cara on her first album, while several of his compositions were also placed on the series Grey’s Anatomy; the combined exposure lifted his profile. By 2016 he had begun crafting his own recordings, fusing gospel, soul, R&B, and pop. His self-titled debut EP appeared in May, with the full-length album Soup following in October.
