Jamaican artist Skillibeng rose to prominence in dancehall through his debut single “Brick Pan Brick,” drawing a global following in the early 2020s by blending trap elements into the style. Emwah Warmington, born in St. Thomas, Jamaica, first experimented with music while still in high school and later launched his solo work alongside a job at his father’s company. A brush with death ultimately pushed the singer to pursue music exclusively. His initial releases from 2015 and 2016—“Skilli She Love” and “Bruk Up Party”—emphasized electronic textures within the genre. The decisive breakthrough arrived with the 2019 single “Brick Pan Brick,” whose lyrics centered on financial ambition and hustling; the track amassed millions of streams and resonated strongly across Jamaica. Skillibeng then maintained an intense output, issuing 43 singles in 2020 together with his first album, The Prodigy. Standout moments included the major follow-up “Mr. Universe,” the Quenga collaboration “Not,” and the third major success “Crocodile Teeth,” later remixed by Nicki Minaj. The pace continued unabated into 2021, yielding another 38 singles along with the albums The Prodigy: Ladies Only and Crocodile Teeth LP. Further attention came via tracks such as “Coke” and the “Crocodile Teeth [Remix],” while fresh collaborations pointed toward new territory with Sleepy Hallow on “2 Sauce [Remix],” Unknown T on “Wollan,” and Popcaan alongside Rich the Kid on “Rocket Launcher.”
